The role of the family is crucial in the development of reading skills in secondary school students, influencing their academic performance. This study examines the impact of family support on the reading habits of 300 students from three educational institutions. Through a reading comprehension test and a questionnaire on family support, significant correlations were identified between family support and reading performance. The results show that 68% of the students achieved an adequate level of reading comprehension, while the remaining 32% did not. Although the correlation between family support and reading performance was positive and significant, it was of low intensity (r = 0.154, p = 0.008). The academic and emotional dimensions of family support were the most influential. These findings highlight the importance of a family environment that actively promotes reading skills to improve academic achievement.
