Social skills in basic education students: a systematic review

Social skills are fundamental in the development of students, because they help improve their emotional control, self-esteem, assertiveness, learning and autonomy to make decisions. The objective of the research was to analyze the implications of social skills in basic education students. In the methodology, a systematic review was used through the PRISMA method. The inclusion criteria were established considering studies published between 2020 and 2024 in databases such as Scopus, SciELO and Web of Science. From this, 4 articles from Scopus, 4 from WOS and 16 articles from Scielo were selected, from a total of 235 studies. The selected articles are in English, Portuguese and Spanish. It was concluded that the factors that influence social skills are assertive for the interrelation with social skills, emotional regulation, self-concept, self-esteem, personal well-being and family functioning that influences biopsychosocial development. There are benefits in social skills that impact learning, reduce bullying, improve school environment, contribute to the understanding of interpersonal relationships and prevent unwanted pregnancies. The strategies that develop social skills are diverse, from communication skills, cognitive, emotional, digital tools and physical activities have an impact on the improvement of social skills.
